Find scholarships and fellowships to fund your education

If you are an incoming or current, undergraduate or graduate IU School of Nursing student, you may apply for one of our scholarships by submitting an application and required essay.

For financial need scholarships we request a completed FAFSA. Award amounts range from $500 to $10,000 per year, per scholarship. Applications for nursing specific scholarships are open from December 1 to March 31, unless otherwise noted in the scholarship portal.

How to apply for scholarships

  1. Sign in to the scholarship portal using your IU username and passphrase.
  2. Complete the general scholarship application to be automatically considered for all the scholarship opportunities you’re eligible for.
  3. Find the opportunities you’re looking for by performing a search with keyword nursing or the specific name of the scholarship.
  4. Complete any additional application materials that may be necessary.

Shirley Crutchfield Mehleck Scholarship

The Shirley Crutchfield Mehleck Scholarship was established in 1998 by an estate gift from Shirley Crutchfield Mehleck from the School of Nursing Class of 1953.

Skelton Family Nursing Scholarship

The Skelton Family Nursing Scholarship was established by Jane Skelton and her family. Jane is a valued alumna from the IUSON having graduated with her BSN in 1960 and is a lifetime member of the alumni association.

Susan Crane Kyle Nursing Scholarship

The Susan Crane Kyle Nursing Scholarship was established by Susan Crane Kyle, alumna of the BSN Class of 1964.

  • Undergraduate nursing student
  • Bloomington or IU Indianapolis campus only
  • Demonstrate financial need as defined by the U.S. Department of Education's criteria for need-based federal financial aid
  • Indiana resident
  • Preference will be given to a student from Boone County, Indiana, with special preference given to applicants who are from an agricultural family and farming community

Susan Kay Nevins Scholarship

The Susan Kay Nevins Scholarship Fund was established in 1987 by Mr. and Mrs. Leon Nevins in honor of Susan Kay Nevins who received her associates degree in nursing in 1985. The Susan Kay Nevins Scholarship Fund benefits:

    • Nursing undergraduate or graduate student
    • Any campus
    • Recipient shall exhibit the qualities of caring and sharing of self that were demonstrated so well by Susan Kay Nevins.

Sylvia Anderson Taylor Nursing Scholarship

The Sylvia Anderson Taylor Nursing Scholarship was established in memory of Sylvia Anderson Taylor by Dr. Bernard Taylor. Sylvia was a proud alumna of IU School of Nursing BSN Class of 1963.

 

Tri Chi Nursing Scholarship

The Tri Chi Nursing Scholarship was established by the members of the Tri Chi Sorority to link the Tri Chi Sorority's name in perpetuity with Indiana University. This scholarship supports an Indiana resident nursing student.

Tyler Luke Mayse Graduate Nursing Scholarship

The Tyler Luke Mayse Graduate Nursing Scholarship was created by the Mayse family in memory of Tyler Luke Mayse. This scholarship is to honor the nurses who cared for their triplets, Tyler and his sisters, Hannah and Kaitlyn. The nurses in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) cared deeply for Tyler and helped his parents through difficult and unfamiliar circumstances. The Mayse family wishes to honor the nurses' dedication, passion for their work, and compassion for their patients and families.

Veldman Family Nursing Scholarship

The Veldman Family Nursing Scholarship was established in 2016 by Thomas and Anita Veldman, both proud Indiana University alumni. Thomas is a graduate of the Kelley School of Business, 1976 and Anita is a graduate of the School of Nursing BSN Class of 1979.

Vernon and Mary Jane Shepherd Scholarship

Vernon and Mary Jane Shepherd Scholarship was established by Vernon and Mary Jane Shepherd. Mary Jane is a graduate of IU School of Nursing with her BSN in 1976 and MSN in 1981. This scholarship benefits undergraduate nursing students who have family responsibilities in addition to their student obligations.
