Tatum Murawski, a Traditional BSN student who will graduate in May 2024, has been chosen as one of IUPUI's Top 100 students for 2024. Below, learn more about Tatum's journey at the IU School of Nursing at IUPUI and the organizations and groups she's chosen to volunteer with during her time at IUPUI.
Why did you choose to pursue your degree at the IU School of Nursing at IUPUI?
I decided to pursue my degree at the IU School of Nursing at IUPUI because of the excellence of the program and the convenience of having four hospitals less than five minutes away from campus.
Who has inspired you during your educational journey?
In high school, I took Anatomy and Physiology, Healthcare Careers, and Certified Nursing Assistant courses, where my instructors inspired me to pursue nursing.
We still keep in touch and they have continued to support and encourage me on my educational journey.
What has been your favorite or most memorable class/educational opportunity while studying at IUPUI, and why?
My most memorable opportunity while studying at IUPUI was studying abroad in Geneva, Switzerland in March 2023. I was able to immerse myself in another culture and make friends and memories that I will cherish forever.
What activities or organizations are you involved in, and why did you choose to become involved or volunteer with these groups?
I am involved in the Student Nurses' Association, Indiana Association of Nursing Students, Sigma Theta Tau, Student Ambassadors, Alpha Lambda Delta Phi Eta, Sigma Honor Society, and Emergency Nurses Association. I became involved with these groups to make friends, network, further my professional and leadership skills, and give back to the Indianapolis community.
Why was it important to you to take on extra activities or leadership roles while studying at IUPUI?
I found it important to take on extra activities or leadership roles while studying at IUPUI to make an impact. I did not want to just go to class every week and come home. I wanted to challenge myself, get involved, and make the most of my time of my undergraduate experience.
What are your plans following the completion of your Bachelor of Science in
Nursing studies?
After completing my Bachelor of Science in Nursing, I will work as an Emergency Department Trauma Registered Nurse at Eskenazi Health in Indianapolis.
What does the recognition of being a Top 100 Outstanding Student mean to you?
Being recognized as a Top 100 Outstanding Student has been extremely gratifying and rewarding. I am proud to say I have achieved my goal of making the most of my experience at IUPUI.
Anything else you’d like to add?
Because of my experience at IUPUI, I will continue to incorporate my leadership and professional skills and desire to take initiative into my nursing career.
