[Johnathan Liechty] The role of the clinical partner in a nursing student's education is really that extended classroom where students get to continue practicing skills. They get to work with patients. They get to work with other health professionals.
[Dr. Chidiebele Obichi] Those places are the places where our students learn the actual skills, because we cannot teach the hands-on skills that they need to be nurses. They are really, really, really, really partners.
[Chandler] You learn how to be a nurse in the class, but once you're on the floor, you almost have to forget what you learned and almost relearn it in a new way.
[Dr. Obichi] The, the learning is so huge, from the very first day to the last day of clinical, and their confidence level increases. You cannot believe the transformation that happens.
[Aaliyah] Throughout all my clinical experience, I'm more thinking like a nurse. I feel like, um, during a code, for example, or a rapid response, like, I'm "OK, let me go get the blood sugar. Let me go grab vitals."
[Dahlia] Fort Wayne's community is very supportive. They love seeing the red in the hospitals. They, they just love seeing how hard we work.
[Sarah Lawrence] One of my favorite parts about having IU nursing students here is that I know from firsthand experience the quality training that they receive, and that is very meaningful to us from a hospital standpoint because we know that they are going to have the same level of excellence and the care they provide to our patients.
[Peyton] Working with patients has allowed me to be more empathetic and sympathetic for the patients, knowing that they are going through a hard time.
[Cecilia] Being in the community, it's just opened my eyes to how hard some people really do have it. I've cried with clients because of their situation, and I wouldn't go back and change that for anything.
[Sidneya] I can't tell you how many times a patient's like I'm so grateful for you. It's just a great feeling. It just makes me feel like I'm in the right direction. I'm doing the right thing every day.
[Johnathan Liechty] The future is definitely brighter for Northeast Indiana because of how together we are helping prepare our future nurses.
