Getting involved in a student organization at IU Bloomington is a great way to make friends, meet new people, and build a network that will help you in your career.
The IU School of Nursing has two primary organizations on-campus, plus several other nationally-recognized associations for nursing students.
IU Bloomington is home to a chapter of the National Student Nurses’ Association, a nonprofit organization that fosters the professional development of nursing students. The IU School of Nursing Student Nurses’ Association (SNA) hosts guest speakers, panel discussions, and other events and activities that help students prepare for successful nursing careers.
All nursing students on the IU Bloomington campus are welcome to attend SNA meetings and events.
Sigma Nursing was founded in 1922 by six students at the IU School of Nursing. Today this prestigious honor society, which is headquartered in Indianapolis, has more than 135,000 active members in over 500 chapters worldwide, including IU’s Alpha Chapter. Its mission is to advance world health and celebrate nursing excellence in scholarship, leadership, and service.
If you’re an undergraduate or graduate nursing student at the IU School of Nursing, you can apply for Sigma membership through the Alpha Chapter. You must meet the Alpha Chapter’s membership criteria in order to be eligible to apply.
I presented at the Sigma International Conference in Calgary. I never imagined attending an international conference, let alone being chosen to present at one. It was an unforgettable experience that I hope to repeat in the future as an APRN.
