"The Urgency of Now: Advancing Health Policy Through Education, Research, and Leadership" is designed to ignite bold advocacy and empower attendees to respond to the urgent need for engagement in various health policy and advocacy arenas.
Morning Session
The morning session features three panels of professionals who elevated their voices and created changes in health policies at local, state and national levels. Afternoon Session
The afternoon session includes unique opportunities for you, the attendee, to enhance professional growth and career advancement through one selected track of programming. The tracks will support sharing information in smaller, topic-focused groups. Conference facilitators will use collaborative, interactive activities to support attendees’ engagement in the following tracks:
Track 1 – Academia: Integrating Policy and Advocacy into Courses, Clinicals, and Civic-based Experiential Learning Opportunities
Track 2 – Research: Enhancing the Bridge Between Policy and Research
Track 3 – Leadership: Leading Health Policy and Bolstering Advocacy in Health Systems, Professional Organizations, and Boards
Attendees, you will have the opportunity to identify individual goals and create strategies to lead policy and advocacy advancements.

Track 1: ACADEMIC IUPUI Campus Center Theater
Integrating Policy and Advocacy into Courses, Clinicals, and Civic-based Experiential Learning Opportunities
This track explores the integration of policy and advocacy into courses, clinicals, and civic-based experiential learning opportunities. Attendees will have the opportunity to share strategies being used to thread and map health policy and advocacy into curricula.
Track 2: RESEARCH IUPUI Campus Center Room 405
Enhancing the Bridge Between Policy and Research
This track will spur dialogue among researchers regarding opportunities to align their research with key state and national policy initiatives. Facilitators will also lead conversations about gaps in evidence-based policy decisions. Faculty and doctoral students will be able to illustrate the policy implications and advocacy roles associated with research and evidence-based practice.
Track 3: LEADERSHIP IUPUI Campus Center Room 409
Leading Health Policy and Bolstering Advocacy in Health Systems, Professional Organizations, and on Boards
This track will highlight roles to lead health policy and bolster advocacy in health systems, professional organizations and on boards. Participants will explore the positive aspects and support needed while serving in roles so vital to the changes needed today.

The Beverly Flynn Endowed Fund for Health Policy Leadership was created to invest in people for the purpose of providing them with educational experiences allowing them to explore health delivery systems, the philosophy of health policy and international health issues as well as provide exposure to various cultures for the purpose of understanding, enlightening and empowering students and faculty in furthering their knowledge of health care policy, health care delivery systems and/or providing health care (service learning) to population groups.
Beverly C. Flynn, Professor Emeritus, had a distinguished career in education and research in her 29 years of service as a faculty member at Indiana University School of Nursing. Beverly’s contributions as a teacher, mentor, and faculty colleague were evident within the school, the university and countless global communities. Professor Flynn was among the first to forge interdisciplinary partnerships on the campus and to promote primary health care for all. She worked tirelessly with communities large and small across our nation and the world.
