Dear Indiana University School of Nursing Bloomington Friends and Alumni,
This past academic year has been an exciting time of change as our campus prepares for the coming of the Regional Academic Health Center with the Health Science Building during the bicentennial. Thomas Morrison, vice president for capital planning and facilities, believes the site next to the State Road 45 and SR 46 bypass “provides wonderful opportunities to expand upon the natural setting with gardens, landscaped parking and other features that will enhance the experience for all who study, work and receive care here.” Design details will be unveiled later.
Some of the key accomplishments for the IU School of Nursing Bloomington campus in the 2016-2017 academic year include:
- Expanding enrollment in our traditional baccalaureate program from 60 to 80 students per year, resulting in a much more diverse student body.
- Updating our website to work on all mobile platforms.
- Creating a room with video conferencing capabilities to improve communications with our colleagues at IUPUI.
- Restructuring our Nursing Learning Resource Center to accommodate learning groups of 20.
- Establishing clinical care cohorts at IU Health Bedford and Stonecroft Extended Care Facility.
- Completing needs assessments for offering an accelerated baccalaureate track and a graduate program at Bloomington.
- Implementing the Dean’s List for students who earn a 3.5 semester GPA each semester. The inaugural list included 155 students!
- Beginning the process for simulation center accreditation by training all full-time faculty on the new simulation standards.
Looking to the future, Dr. Mary Lynn Davis-Ajami will assume leadership for the campus as the permanent associate dean. The campus is fortunate to have Clinical Assistant Professor Marcia Laux, RN, MSN, NE-BC, serving as the interim associate dean from May 13 through July 8, 2017, when Dr. Davis-Ajami arrives.
