School ranks as top Bachelor of Science in Nursing program in Indiana

The Indiana University School of Nursing undergraduate program is among the nation’s top 25 programs, according to the latest U.S. News and World Report’s Best Colleges rankings unveiled Monday.

The IU School of Nursing – which includes the Bloomington, Indianapolis and Fort Wayne campuses – tied for the 23rd spot and is the highest ranked undergraduate nursing program in Indiana. It is the only nursing school in the state included among the U.S. News top 50 nursing programs.

“These national rankings reflect our commitment to excellence in teaching and preparing the next generation of registered nurses,” said Robin Newhouse, dean of the IU School of Nursing. “Our Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program offers an exciting and cutting-edge pathway to a rich and rewarding professional nursing career, and we’re pleased to be recognized as the best undergraduate nursing program in Indiana.”

The IU School of Nursing offers three tracks in the BSN program: traditional, accelerated, and RN to BSN Degree Completion. The traditional track is designed for students who do not hold a college degree, most typically high school students. The accelerated track provides a transition path to nursing for those who hold a college degree in another field of study. Finally, the statewide online RN to BSN Degree Completion option is designed for nurses who hold a two-year degree and would like to earn their BSN.

The IU School of Nursing enrolled the largest undergraduate class in its 109-year history this academic year across all three core campuses. According to data, about 95% of IU School of Nursing graduates apply for licensure in the state of Indiana, which directly addresses the nursing shortage crisis in the state.

“Nursing education plays a vital role in shaping the healthcare landscape and improving patient outcomes,” Newhouse said. “As the demand for high-quality healthcare professionals continues to rise, our top priority is preparing students for rewarding careers and cultivating leaders who will drive innovation and advocate for healthcare equity.”
