Scholarships

Find scholarships and fellowships to fund your education

If you are an incoming or current, undergraduate or graduate IU School of Nursing student, you may apply for one of our scholarships by submitting an application and required essay. Scholarship applications are open from December 1 to March 1. During the open period, you can search the scholarships portal using the keyword “nursing” for available scholarships.

For financial need scholarships, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) annually. Deadline to submit your FAFSA can be found at the same link.

Award amounts range from $500 to $10,000 per year, per scholarship.

How to apply for scholarships

  1. Sign in to the scholarship portal using your IU username and passphrase.
  2. Complete the general scholarship application to be automatically considered for all the scholarship opportunities you’re eligible for.
  3. Find the opportunities you’re looking for by performing a search with keyword nursing or the specific name of the scholarship.
  4. Complete any additional application materials that may be necessary.

Marian Golubiewski Scholarship Endowment

The Marian Golubiewski Scholarship Endowment was established by an estate gift from Marian Golubiewski, alumna of the Class of 1948, to assist nursing students attending IU School of Nursing on the Bloomington campus.

Martha Akers Scholarship

The Martha Akers Scholarship Endowment was established by Martha L. Akers in 1993. Martha received her bachelor's degree from Indiana University School of Nursing in 1993.

Mary E. & Patrick Soja Scholarship

Undergraduate

The Mary E. and Patrick Soja Scholarship was established in 2001 by Mary E. and Patrick Soja to honor Mary's many years of dedicated service to IU School of Nursing. Mary (MSN '80) and Patrick (BA '84) are both graduates from Indiana University. Mary taught and supervised students at IU School of Nursing for 45 years.

Mary J. Fulk Kopsch Scholarship

The Mary J. Fulk Kopsch Scholarship was established to recognize and honor Mrs. Kopsch who received her degree in nursing from Indiana University in 1948 and her sister, Esther Fulk Ross, who received her nursing degree in 1946.

 

Maryanne & Frank C. Springer, Jr. Nursing Scholarship

The Maryanne and Frank C. Springer, Jr. Nursing Scholarship was established by Donald and Sonna Merk in honor the memory of Sonna's parents. Both of the Merks are alumni of Indiana University. Don graduated from the School of Business, 1966, and Sonna from the School of Nursing, BSN 1970, MSN 1981, and PhD 2000.

Robert E. and Josephine R. Crosby Scholarship

The Robert E. and Josephine R. Crosby Scholarship was established by Carol M. Crosby to honor her parents. Carol is a proud alumna of IU School of Nursing, BSN 1969 and MSN 1978. Carol previously served on the IUSON Alumni Board and was recognized in 2014 during IUSON's 100th anniversary celebration as one of the Top 100 Alumni Legacy Leaders. Carol wishes to support future nurses graduating from IU School of Nursing Fort Wayne campus.

Roderick D & Helen Kinnear Mackenzie Scholarship

The Roderick D. & Helen Kinnear Mackenzie Scholarship was established by Sheona Mackenzie and Neil Theobald in honor of Sheona's parents. Roderick wanted to study politics and music but was offered a scholarship for the ministry only, so he did not attend college. Helen was a gifted student and wanted to study medicine but was only able to afford nursing school. Roderick and Helen valued education and firmly believed that access to education should be made available to all and not just the privileged. They immigrated from Scotland to the United States so their children could study any field they chose. This scholarship supports an incoming student at the School of Nursing on the Bloomington campus who is a first generation college student.

Roy and Peggy Echols Nursing Scholarship

The Roy and Peggy Echols Nursing Scholarship was established in 1980 by Mr. Roy C. Echols and Mrs. Leatrice "Peggy" Echols. Roy received an honorary doctorate from Indiana University in 1963.

Ruth Hamilton School of Nursing

Ruth Orum-Orgain Scholarship

The Ruth Orum-Orgain Scholarship was established in 1963 by Francis Orgain and Dorothy Sharp to honor the memory of Ruth Orum-Orgain. Ruth was associated with the faculty at IU School of Nursing prior to 1963.
