Scholarships

Find scholarships and fellowships to fund your education

If you are an incoming or current, undergraduate or graduate IU School of Nursing student, you may apply for one of our scholarships by submitting an application and required essay. Scholarship applications are open from December 1 to March 1. During the open period, you can search the scholarships portal using the keyword “nursing” for available scholarships.

For financial need scholarships, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) annually. Deadline to submit your FAFSA can be found at the same link.

Award amounts range from $500 to $10,000 per year, per scholarship.

How to apply for scholarships

  1. Sign in to the scholarship portal using your IU username and passphrase.
  2. Complete the general scholarship application to be automatically considered for all the scholarship opportunities you’re eligible for.
  3. Find the opportunities you’re looking for by performing a search with keyword nursing or the specific name of the scholarship.
  4. Complete any additional application materials that may be necessary.

Frances G. Lehmann Nursing Scholarship

The Frances G. Lehmann Nursing Scholarship was established by Clarence Walton in honor of his wife, Frances Lehman. Throughout her lifetime, Frances exemplified the caring and compassionate values of nursing and was committed to the profession of nursing and excellence in the quality of care. Ms. Lehman made significant contributions as a nurse surveyor for the Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Health Care Organizations, administrator at St. Francis Hospital, consultant for the Indiana State Department of Health, nursing faculty member at IU and Indiana State University, Clinical Nurse Specialist in psychiatric/mental health nursing at La Rue Carter Hospital and emergency room nurse at St. Vincent's Hospital.

Garnet Keck Benzel Memorial Scholarship

The Garnet Keck Benzel Memorial Scholarship was established by an estate gift in 1986 by Garnet Keck Benzel, a graduate of IU School of Nursing in 1930.

Georgia Belle Nyland Scholarship

The Georgia Belle Nyland Scholarship was established in 1991 by Georgia Belle Nyland, a graduate of IU School of Nursing in 1942.

  • 2nd preference to resident of counties contiguous to Fulton County

Grace A. Jackson BSN Scholarship

The Grace A. Jackson BSN Scholarship was established in 2002 by Grace Alice Jackson, a graduate of IU School of Nursing Class of 1949.

Harriett Becker Scholarship

The Harriett Becker Scholarship was established in 2002 by an estate gift from Harriett R. Becker, a 1948 graduate of IU School of Nursing.

Helen E. Gibbons Scholarship in Nursing

The Helen E. Gibbons Scholarship in Nursing was established by Helen E. Gibbons to support a scholarship for an undergraduate student enrolled in the School of Nursing on the Bloomington campus. Helen received her doctorate of education from Indiana University in 1960. She retired from Indiana University in 1990, after serving 30 years as a business and education faculty member at the Fort Wayne and Bloomington campuses.

Helen E. Gibbons Scholarship in Nursing

Helen E. Gibbons retired from Indiana University in 1990, as a faculty member teaching Business Education at Indiana University, Bloomington,  and Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne. The Helen E. Gibbons Scholarship in Nursing benefits an undergraduate student enrolled in the School of Nursing on the Bloomington campus who has demonstrated financial need

Howard L. Keach Scholarship

The Howard L. Keach Scholarship was established in 1977 by an estate gift from Hilda H. Keach in memory of her husband, Howard L. Keach.
