Fall 2022

Wendy Trueblood Miller

From the Associate Dean

Wendy R. Trueblood Miller
PhD, RN, CNS, CCRN, FAAN, FAES

Welcome!

This is my first time talking with you as the associate dean of the IU School of Nursing on the Bloomington campus (IUSON BL). Before taking on this role, I had previously worked as faculty at IUSON BL and, coming into this position, had heard so many positive things about the school’s students, faculty, staff, alumni, and donors.

I can only say that, after a few months on the job, everything I have heard is true!

Because of you, there are so many great things happening in Bloomington, including our ambitious plan to help address the nursing shortage in our state by increasing the number of students accepted to our program by 50%.

But there is another side to the story that we want to tell.

For the past 20 years, Gallup’s Most Honest & Ethical Professions Poll has reported that the American public views nursing as our nation’s most trusted profession. And you have often heard it said that nurses are superheroes who work tirelessly on healthcare’s frontlines.

While that is certainly true, did you know that nurses are also highly-skilled research scientists and innovators? More and more, nurses are playing leading roles in the pioneering of—and gaining acceptance for—many lifesaving procedures.

In this edition of The Nursing News, we’ll take you behind the scenes to look at some of the people and programs we offer to help our students build a foundation of science that will enable them to care for patients in all their complexity. It’s a story that will be both eye-opening and one that you’ll enjoy reading.

As always, thank you for being a part of our IUSON BL extended family!
