On Thursday, August 18, the IU School of Nursing Bloomington (IUSON BL) welcomed 100 incoming students from our Traditional and Accelerated 2nd degree BSN program tracks. New Student Orientation served as their welcome to our program, allowing them to meet IUSON BL faculty, staff, and leadership.
Welcome to the classes of 2023 and 2025!
Learning the ropes
Through networking activities, various icebreakers, and an Amazing Race-style game that had our incoming students touring the facilities of the Health Sciences Building, our incoming class learned the ins and outs of being a Nursing student at IU Bloomington. Many of these students were seeing the building and the state-of-the-art equipment they will be working with—such as the Nursing Learning Resource Center (NLRC)—for the first time.
“You could definitely feel the excitement from these students. They worked incredibly hard to get here, and our team is beyond excited to see them begin their journey.”
Josh Bowles, Nursing advisor, recorder, & scheduling officer
Faculty and staff shared with students the culture of our school, along with important policies and expectations for the coming academic year. We were also fortunate to have Chad Priest, CEO of the Indiana Region of the American Red Cross, speak to our students about nursing as an act of radical love.
These future nurses were also able to attend a job fair with community partners to learn about part-time jobs and future co-curricular opportunities. The day ended with IUSON BL hosting a reception for their parents, who then joined us as their daughters and sons began their new academic and professional journey by reciting the IU School of Nursing pledge.
“You could definitely feel the excitement from these students,” said Josh Bowles, IUSON BL nursing advisor, recorder, and scheduling officer. “They worked incredibly hard to get here, And our team is beyond excited to see them begin their journey!”
Join us now as we look back and share memories from that special day.
