Wednesday, September 14th, was a very special day for our school as we unveiled our new mural called “A Commitment to Diversity.”
The mural depicts five milestone graduates and a faculty member who demonstrate the school’s long-standing commitment to provide Indiana and the nation with a healthcare workforce that is as diverse and compassionate as the populations it serves.
Pictured in the mural are the school’s first African American female graduate; its first African American faculty member; its first Asian and Hispanic male graduates; its oldest graduate; and a graduate representing the LGBTQ+ women who have graduated from the school.
IU School of Nursing (IUSON) Dean Robin Newhouse was the master of ceremonies for the unveiling, which featured remarks by IU President Pamela Whitten; IUSON Bloomington Associate Dean Wendy Trueblood Miller; Vice President for Diversity and Multicultural Affairs James C. Wimbush; and IU Bloomington nursing students Theophilia Denadi and Diana Jimenez Ronquillo.
The mural was painted by Raheem Terrell Rashawn Elmore, an IU student working on a dual PhD in English Literature and African American & African Diaspora Studies.
