Meet Sandra Chapman
Indiana Journalism Hall of Fame Inductee Sandra Chapman is an award-winning investigative reporter, filmmaker, author and communications specialist — with more than three decades of impactful research, writing and content production experience. Her work as been recognized for statewide legislative and policy changes within the Criminal Justice System, State Government Oversight, Healthcare, and the Environment. Sandra’s work at NBC Affiliate, WTHR Channel 13, Indianapolis, garnered the prestigious National George Foster Peabody Award, a Regional Edward R. Murrow Award, The National NABJ Salute to Excellence Award, and Eleven Emmy Awards. Prior to joining WTHR Sandra worked at WISH-TV where she was honored with two National Gracie Allen Awards; one of them for her investigative reporting on the 1968 Civil Rights Case of Carol Jenkins.
Sandra is currently the President of Prince Media Group, LLC — a documentary production company and boutique media content/consulting business. Her debut film, The Girl in the Yellow Scarf Documentary, based on the book she authored by the same title, is the true crime account of the 1968 Civil Rights Murder of Carol Jenkins in a former Sundown Town. The film also examines the decades-long impact and legacy associated with the case. The award-winning documentary has been selected to screen in major cities including: Indianapolis, Toronto, Atlanta, and Cleveland. The film received jury honors for Best Documentary, Best of Hoosier Lens and has received an Audience Choice Award. Indiana University, Butler University, Purdue University Fort Wayne and Ball State University have also hosted screenings for students.
Sandra is a graduate of Ball State University where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Telecommunications, and was recognized as an Outstanding Alumni by the University. In 2021, she completed course work at the Sundance Institute for Filmmaking, and a year later, in 2022, she earned a graduate certification in Strategic Communications from Butler University.
Sandra has served as a board director for: Dress for Success, Indianapolis, the Society of Professional Journalists, and Rise Church. She is also a member of the National Association of Black Journalists, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and The Northeasterners Organization.
