Biography
Dr. Knopf is an Associate Professor in the Indiana University School of Nursing. Her research focuses on the ethical engagement and representation of marginalized communities and individuals in clinical research. She has received $2.5 million in external funding as a principal investigator from the NIH-funded Adolescent Medicine Trials Network for HIV/AIDS Interventions (ATN) and the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI). Dr. Knopf is a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing, and has received several other regional and national awards in recognition of her accomplishments. Her work has been cited by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and U.S. Department of State. She has served as an invited expert speaker at high-level international meetings of the U.S Agency for International Development and the World Health Organization. She was the first nurse selected for a research residency at the Brocher Foundation for biomedical ethics in Hermance, France.
Dr. Knopf served on a National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine ad-hoc committee that conducted a congressionally mandated study focused on improving representation in research. The committee's report was released in spring 2022. Dr. Knopf has a strong interest in diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts at the university and in the community. She has given lectures and presentations on inclusive classroom practices. Dr. Knopf teaches courses in health care ethics and qualitative methods.
