Scholarships

Find scholarships and fellowships to fund your education

If you are an incoming or current, undergraduate or graduate IU School of Nursing student, you may apply for one of our scholarships by submitting an application and required essay. Scholarship applications are open from December 1 to March 1. During the open period, you can search the scholarships portal using the keyword “nursing” for available scholarships.

For financial need scholarships, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) annually. Deadline to submit your FAFSA can be found at the same link.

Award amounts range from $500 to $10,000 per year, per scholarship.

How to apply for scholarships

  1. Sign in to the scholarship portal using your IU username and passphrase.
  2. Complete the general scholarship application to be automatically considered for all the scholarship opportunities you’re eligible for.
  3. Find the opportunities you’re looking for by performing a search with keyword nursing or the specific name of the scholarship.
  4. Complete any additional application materials that may be necessary.

Marcy Smith Critical Care Nursing Scholarship

The Marcy Smith Critical Care Nursing Scholarship was established by David M. Smith and Mary Ann Smith in memory of their daughter, Marcy Smith, who died at age 37, and to honor the critical care nurses who served Marcy. Many of Marcy's classmates from Kokomo High School Class of 1979 have also contributed to the fund.

  • Graduate or undergraduate nursing student

  • 1st preference to graduate of Kokomo High School
  • 2nd preference to any Howard County high school
  • 3rd preference to Miami or Tipton counties high school

Margaret C. & Anne Marie Kuzmitz Scholarship in Nursing

The Margaret C. & Anne Marie Kuzmitz Scholarship in Nursing was established through an estate gift by Anne Marie, to honor her sister, Margaret, who was a nurse. Anne Marie wanted to assist students in need of financial assistance who are pursuing a degree in nursing on any IU campus.

Martha Akers Scholarship

The Martha Akers Scholarship Endowment was established by Martha L. Akers in 1993. Martha received her bachelor's degree from Indiana University School of Nursing in 1993.

Mary J. Fulk Kopsch Scholarship

The Mary J. Fulk Kopsch Scholarship was established to recognize and honor Mrs. Kopsch who received her degree in nursing from Indiana University in 1948 and her sister, Esther Fulk Ross, who received her nursing degree in 1946.

 

May Connard Alexander Memorial Scholarship for Nursing at IUFW

Established to support nursing students on the IU Fort Wayne campus.

  • GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 scale
  • Preference for non-traditional student
  • Complete a class in Community Health or Public Health Nursing. Scholarship based on merit. If candidates are equally qualified preference shall be given to those with financial need.

Melvin Waltz Memorial Nursing Scholarship

Fort Wayne
Undergraduate, Graduate

Established to support nursing students on the IU Fort Wayne campus.

  • Undergraduate nursing student with GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale
  • Graduate nursing student with GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • IU Fort Wayne campus only.
  • Because, as part of its mission, Indiana University is committed to diversity, special consideration will be given to underrepresented populations, including but not limited to financially challenged students, and/or students with diverse cultural experiences.

Pyles Family IUFW Nursing Scholarship

Fort Wayne
Undergraduate

The Pyles Family IUFW Nursing Scholarship was established in 2023 by Helen F. Pyles. Ms. Pyles wishes to honor all members of the medical profession but in particular nurses, both active and retired, who are family members, friends, and residents and employees of The Towne House Retirement Community. She recognizes these nurses for their dedication, passion for their calling, and compassion for their patients and families. This scholarship was created in recognition of all those who are entitled to add "RN" to their signature.

The Pyles Family IUFW Nursing Scholarship supports undergraduate nursing students on the IU Fort Wayne Campus. Recipients must have financial need, a 3.0 GPA, and career aspirations to become a nurse. Preference will be given to students who are single parents, pursuing a nursing degree later in life or as a second degree, and/or have faced challenges in life.

Robert E. and Josephine R. Crosby Scholarship

The Robert E. and Josephine R. Crosby Scholarship was established by Carol M. Crosby to honor her parents. Carol is a proud alumna of IU School of Nursing, BSN 1969 and MSN 1978. Carol previously served on the IUSON Alumni Board and was recognized in 2014 during IUSON's 100th anniversary celebration as one of the Top 100 Alumni Legacy Leaders. Carol wishes to support future nurses graduating from IU School of Nursing Fort Wayne campus.

Roy and Peggy Echols Nursing Scholarship

The Roy and Peggy Echols Nursing Scholarship was established in 1980 by Mr. Roy C. Echols and Mrs. Leatrice "Peggy" Echols. Roy received an honorary doctorate from Indiana University in 1963.
