2025 Top 100: Braelyn Andrew

Friday, April 04, 2025

Braelyn Andrew, in red IU medical scrubs, stands outside, smiling. On the right, a panel features a quote from Braelyn about being honored as a Top 100 student, recognizing her hard work and dedication. Below the panel is the Indiana University School of Nursing logo.

Each year, IU Indianapolis honors 100 outstanding undergraduate students who demonstrate excellence in three categories—academic excellence, campus leadership, and community engagement. These Top 100 Jags represent everything that makes IU Indianapolis exceptional.

Braelyn Andrew, a BSN student who will graduate in May 2025, has been chosen as one of IU Indianapolis' Top 100 students for 2025. Below, learn more about Braelyn’s journey at the IU School of Nursing at Indianapolis and the organizations and groups she's chosen to volunteer with during her time at IU Indianapolis.

What has been your favorite or most memorable class or educational opportunity while studying at the IU School of Nursing? Why?

The most memorable class for me was fundamentals, as it is where I met the friends who have gotten me through school. My favorite educational experience was being a guest of the Eskenazi Trauma Department where I got to rotate through the different professions in the ED. This experience has solidified my love for ER nursing and given me amazing educational opportunities to practice my skills.

What activities or organizations are you involved in, and why did you choose these groups?

I am involved in organizations and activities that not only reinforce my nursing skills, but also allow me to grow academically, culturally, and personally through community outreach. These experiences have helped me build strong leadership and communication skills, while also allowing me to mentor and support younger nursing students, something I’ve found incredibly rewarding. Being part of groups that focus on service and connections has enriched my time at IUSON and shaped the kind of nurse I aspire to be.

Why was it important to you to take on extra activities and leadership roles while studying at IU Indianapolis and the IU School of Nursing?

Extracurriculars and leadership roles are important to me because they allow me to grow beyond the classroom by taking on additional responsibilities that help me build confidence in my communication skills, connect with others, and make a meaningful impact in the nursing community.

Who has inspired you during your nursing school journey?

Throughout my nursing school journey, my biggest inspiration has been my sister, an IU School of Nursing alumna who graduated in 2022. Seeing her thrive through involvement and fostered connections at IU School of Nursing motivated me to do the same. Following in her footsteps at the same school made it feel even more meaningful to get involved, grow personally and professionally, and give back to the nursing community, just as she has.

What are your plans following the completion of your Bachelor of Science in Nursing?

Following graduating with my BSN, I plan to take a couple of weeks of much-needed time off to travel. I will then study for my NCLEX and obtain a job at a local ER in Indiana to give back to a community that has given so much to me. I am eager to grow into a confident, compassionate nurse and continue learning alongside the dedicated professionals who have guided me throughout nursing school.

What does the recognition of being a Top 100 student mean to you?

Being recognized as a Top 100 student means so much to me. It’s a reflection of the hard work and dedication I’ve poured into my education and professional growth. It’s a privilege to now be part of such a distinguished group of students and alumni who share values of leadership, service, and academic excellence. This recognition motivates me to continue making a positive impact both in my future nursing profession and in my community.

Anything else you’d like to add?

I’m incredibly grateful for the support I’ve received from the IU School of Nursing faculty, hospital partners, and friends who’ve stood by me throughout this journey. Their guidance, encouragement, and belief in me have shaped my growth both personally and professionally and I truly wouldn’t be where I am today without their support.
