What has been your favorite or most memorable class or educational opportunity while studying at the IU School of Nursing? Why?
One of the most impactful classes I've taken at the IU School of Nursing is Adaptive Processes (MedSurg 2). This course, while challenging, has provided me with a robust understanding of complex patient care scenarios. The hands-on experiences during clinicals have been particularly enlightening, allowing me to apply theoretical knowledge in real-life situations and emphasizing the importance of holistic care. My connection with my Med Surg2 Teacher, Savannah, has been the most profound among all my professors.
What activities or organizations are you involved in, and why did you choose these groups?
I actively participate in the Student Nursing Organization and the Indiana Association of Nursing Students (IANS). IUSON student Ambassadors, and many others. I am a board member in both organizations and just ended my term with IANS. I chose these groups because they offer great networking opportunities, professional development, and a platform to advocate for our nursing community. Being part of these organizations has allowed me to connect with fellow students and gain insights into the nursing profession.
Why was it important to you to take on extra activities and leadership roles while studying at IU Indianapolis and the IU School of Nursing?
Engaging in extra activities and taking on leadership roles at IU Indianapolis has been instrumental in my career development. These roles have not only honed my essential skills but also fostered a sense of community among my peers, a crucial aspect of nursing practice.
Who has inspired you during your nursing school journey?
During my nursing school journey, I was inspired by my parents, especially my mom, my siblings, friends, and professors, especially the ones who always encouraged us to push beyond our limits and strive for excellence. My mom has always been there for me and pushed me to be the best. My professor's passion for nursing and dedication to teaching made a significant impact on my educational experience.
What are your plans after completing your Bachelor of Science in Nursing?
After completing my Bachelor of Science in Nursing, I plan to pursue a career in the progressive care unit. However, I hope to have an opportunity to transfer to the Labor and Delivery unit, as I want to provide top-quality care to the mothers and babies in the hospital where I currently work. I also plan to continue my education and further my specialization.
What does the recognition of being a Top 100 student mean to you?
Being recognized as a Top 100 student is an incredible honor for me. It represents the hard work and dedication I've put into my studies and motivates me to continue striving for excellence in my nursing career.
Anything else you’d like to add?
I am deeply grateful for the unwavering support I've received from my friends, family, and faculty throughout my academic journey. Their encouragement and belief in me have been invaluable in helping me achieve my goals.
