Librarians are an integral part of research being conducted around the world. At Indiana University School of Nursing, a nursing librarian can support you in your teaching, learning, clinical and research endeavors.
"We can help you access and manage resources, as well as evaluate resources to ensure the quality of information meets standards for evidence-based practice," says Anna Liss Jacobsen, MA, MLS, who began her role as nursing librarian at IUPUI in the fall of 2022.
Jacobsen partners with IU School of Nursing faculty and students to increase "information literacy," defined by the American Library Association as the ability not only to recognize when information is needed but also to locate, evaluate and effectively use that information. The type of support she offers can vary depending on the needs of the nursing student or faculty member.
"I'm available to give a course presentation, department orientation, research consultations and more," says Jacobsen.
Utilizing the skill set of a nursing librarian, such as Jacobsen, can help students with undergraduate coursework or treating patients at the graduate level. Faculty members may seek assistance with a publication or simply accessing information.
"We can go through the process of what they need at the time but also make sure they walk away with the knowledge, skills and information to apply to future questions," Jacobsen explains.

Jacobsen is also available to help alumni make the most of their access to resources, which often changes after graduation.
Her primary goal is to help faculty, students and clinicians with all their information and resource needs.
"I enjoy giving people the knowledge and skills to make better decisions for their own lives and more informed decisions for the people around them," says Jacobsen. "It's incredibly fulfilling to help people access the resources they need to do that effectively."
