Biography
As an expert in addressing the priority needs of individuals with cancer, Dr. Storey uniquely contributes to the science through the use of data from electronic health records to advance the understanding of the impact of diabetes on the symptoms/ symptom clustering and clinical outcomes of colorectal cancer and breast cancer survivors. Dr. Storey’s education and clinical expertise as an Advanced Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist strengthens her ability to clearly analyze and understand the implications of the information gained from research with large data. In the acute care clinical environment, Dr. Storey identified that individuals with both cancer and comorbid diabetes seemingly had more clinical complications, poorer outcomes, and reported more symptoms compared to cancer patients without diabetes. These observations have contributed to her research focus on cancer survivors with diabetes. Dr. Storey has been externally as Principal Investigator (PI), by the Oncology Nursing Foundation, and internally funded through the Indiana University School of Nursing and the Indiana University Simon Cancer Center Cancer Prevention and Control Pilot grant and the American Cancer Society Institutional Review Grant.
