Biography

Dr. Moorman worked in women’s health and obstetrics for over 30 years in the Indianapolis area, both in labor and delivery and surgery, then in clinics for IU Health as a Women’s Health NP. She started teaching at IU School of Nursing in 2007, earned her PhD in 2013, and is an Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Community Health Systems. She coordinates the MSN in Nursing Education and is the Director of the Faculty Innovating for Nursing Education (FINE) Center for IU School of Nursing. She has been the recipient of several teaching awards including the Trustees Teaching Award for IUPUI, the Sigma Theta Tau Excellence in Teaching Award for Alpha Chapter, the Karen Cobb Creative Teaching Award and the Dean's Award for Innovation. She was chosen as a Mosaic Fellow for Indiana University and is an expert in interactive classrooms and teaching. Her research is focused on using art to teach observational and communication skills with Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) and interactive teaching strategies. She has presented internationally and has consulted with various universities and hospital systems about the use of VTS and communication skills.
