Biography
Dreu Doerstler, DNP, APRN, ANP-BC, AACC, CCK, is an Assistant Clinical Professor at Indiana University School of Nursing. She began teaching in the Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP) track in 2023 and was named Track Coordinator in May 2024. Dr. Doerstler is an ANCC-certified advanced practice registered nurse with over 23 years of nursing experience and 18 years of clinical practice as an Adult Nurse Practitioner. Her career has a strong critical care focus, with expertise in coronary care, intensive care, and emergency department settings.
Dr. Doerstler’s advanced practice career emphasizes internal medicine, with significant competency in general cardiology, caring for patients in inpatient and outpatient settings. An Associate of the American College of Cardiology, she has subspecialty experience in heart failure and electrophysiology. She has extensive experience working with geriatric populations and a keen interest in rural health and health policy involving older adults.
Dr. Doerstler earned her BSN from Ball State University in 2000, her MSN as an Adult Nurse Practitioner from IUPUI SON in 2005, and her DNP from Ball State University in 2018, with a capstone project focused on palliative care in heart failure.
Inducted into Sigma Theta Tau, Alpha Chapter in 2000, Dr. Doerstler is the chair of the Awards Committee of the Alpha Chapter. She is dedicated to advancing nursing scholarship while enhancing patient care. Dr. Doerstler is passionate about teaching through experiential learning methods, including simulation and clinical practicums to enhance student engagement and understanding. She is deeply interested in the professional identity in nursing and its integration into both didactic and clinical learning settings.
