Find scholarships and fellowships to fund your education

If you are an incoming or current, undergraduate or graduate IU School of Nursing student, you may apply for one of our scholarships by submitting an application and required essay. Scholarship applications are open from December 1 to March 1. During the open period, you can search the scholarships portal using the keyword “nursing” for available scholarships.

For financial need scholarships, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) annually. Deadline to submit your FAFSA can be found at the same link.

Award amounts range from $500 to $10,000 per year, per scholarship.

How to apply for scholarships

  1. Sign in to the scholarship portal using your IU username and passphrase.
  2. Complete the general scholarship application to be automatically considered for all the scholarship opportunities you’re eligible for.
  3. Find the opportunities you’re looking for by performing a search with keyword nursing or the specific name of the scholarship.
  4. Complete any additional application materials that may be necessary.

Frances Thompson Cole Graduate Nursing Scholarship

The Frances Thompson Cole Graduate Nursing Scholarship was created to honor the memory of Frances Thompson Cole by her granddaughter, Debbie Grew. Frances worked with graduate students at the School of Nursing and saw first hand the financial need of so many students.

Frank & Robin Newhouse Scholarship

The Frank and Robin Newhouse Scholarship was established in 2015 by Dean Robin Newhouse and her husband, Frank. Dean Newhouse is the sixth dean to serve IU School of Nursing. Dean Newhouse has devoted her professional career to patient-centered health outcomes and health service research.

Garnet Keck Benzel Memorial Scholarship

The Garnet Keck Benzel Memorial Scholarship was established by an estate gift in 1986 by Garnet Keck Benzel, a graduate of IU School of Nursing in 1930.

George T. and Barbara W. Schilling Nursing Scholarship

The George T. and Barbara W. Schilling Nursing Scholarship was established in 2011 by George and Barbara to honor their children: Carolyn Schilling Gery and George White Schilling and to honor the memory of their daughter Martha "Marty" Vera Schilling (BA 1975, Indiana University), who died of breast cancer in March 2011. George and Barbara also wish to recognize with gratitude the nurses who provided their daughter with compassionate and quality care.

The Harry C. Schumacher and Stella O'Brien Schumacher Nursing Scholarship was established in 1995 by Melba Schumacher in memory of her father and mother.

Helen E. Gibbons Scholarship in Nursing

The Helen E. Gibbons Scholarship in Nursing was established by Helen E. Gibbons to support a scholarship for an undergraduate student enrolled in the School of Nursing on the Bloomington campus. Helen received her doctorate of education from Indiana University in 1960. She retired from Indiana University in 1990, after serving 30 years as a business and education faculty member at the Fort Wayne and Bloomington campuses.
