Find scholarships and fellowships to fund your education

If you are an incoming or current, undergraduate or graduate IU School of Nursing student, you may apply for one of our scholarships by submitting an application and required essay.

For financial need scholarships we request a completed FAFSA. Award amounts range from $500 to $10,000 per year, per scholarship. Applications for nursing specific scholarships are open from December 1 to March 31, unless otherwise noted in the scholarship portal.

How to apply for scholarships

  1. Sign in to the scholarship portal using your IU username and passphrase.
  2. Complete the general scholarship application to be automatically considered for all the scholarship opportunities you’re eligible for.
  3. Find the opportunities you’re looking for by performing a search with keyword nursing or the specific name of the scholarship.
  4. Complete any additional application materials that may be necessary.

Alida Kneisel Scholarship

The Alida E. Kneisel Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 1996 in memory of Alida Kneisel by her family members. Alida attended IU School of Nursing, BSN Class of 1962 and pursued a career in nursing at Long Beach California Veterans Administration Hospital.

Alumni Legacy Leaders Fellowship

IUPUI, Fort Wayne, Bloomington

The Alumni Legacy Leaders Fellowship was established in 2014 to commemorate the IU School of Nursing's 100th anniversary in that same year. This fellowship supports doctoral students preparing for their future as faculty leaders for education reform, nurse scientists to generate research to improve health outcomes, and nurse leaders in practice to lead patient-focused health care delivery.

Audrey S Geisel Nursing Scholarship

The Audrey S Geisel Nursing Scholarship was established by an estate gift made by Audrey S. Geisel. Audrey graduated from the IU School of Nursing Indianapolis in 1944 and received a Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from IUPUI in 2007.

Barbara Chalko BSN Scholarship

The Barbara Chalko BSN Scholarship was established in 2006 by her children, her family, friends, and colleagues. Barbara Chalko received her MSN from IUSON in 1983 and was a teacher. Donors wish to note that Barbara's accomplishments in the area of nursing education was evidenced by the fact she was nominated by her students and was a four-time recipient of the IUSON "Outstanding Faculty Award."

Barbara Dailey Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Barbara Dailey Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by Barbara Dailey's family to honor the memory of their mother and daughter. Barbara was an esteemed faculty member at IU School of Nursing in the Community Health Nursing Department and was involved in the early development of the Minority Advisory Council.

Berniece Norton Nursing Scholarship

The Berniece Norton Nursing Scholarship was established by Barbara Norton Hamilton and Kenneth H. Hamilton to honor Barbara's mother. Barbara is an esteemed Emerita Faculty member of IU School of Nursing. She taught Fundamentals of Nursing and Community Health Nursing until her retirement in the mid-1990s. She is the coauthor of a seminal textbook in nursing, Skills for Professional Nursing Practice: Communication, Physical Appraisal, and Clinical Techniques.

Betsy and James U. Guthrie, M.D. Class of 1949 Nursing Scholarship

The Betsy and James U. Guthrie, M.D. Class of 1949 Nursing Scholarship was established by Class of 1949 alumna Betsy Guthrie to honor her late husband and to pay tribute to her beloved classmates. The Class of 1949 has also contributed through their class treasury as well as with individual gifts.

Bettie Kramer Scholarship

The Bettie Kramer Scholarship was established in 1999 by an estate gift from Bettie J. Kramer, a friend of Indiana University School of Nursing.

  • Pre-nursing (first year student)
  • Any IU campus
  • Awarded to first year college students who have declared intent to pursue nursing (applicants may still be in high school to use in first year of study)
  • Pursuing baccalaureate nursing degree
  • High school transcript
  • Recipient will be judged on essay that describes potential to succeed in nursing based on factors such as leadership abilities or other life experiences
  • File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
  • Demonstrate financial need as defined by the U.S. Department of Education's criteria for need-based federal financial aid

Betty Porter Anderson Scholarship

Bloomington, Fort Wayne, IUPUI

The Betty Porter Anderson Scholarship was established in 2000 by Max E. Porter in honor of Betty Porter Anderson, an IU Graduate in 1947.

  • Undergraduate nursing student
  • Any IU campus
  • Junior (300 level courses) or Senior (400 level courses)
  • High academic achievement
  • Recipient will be selected based on statement showing promise of epitomizing the highest goals of nursing

Beverly Ross Scholarship for Riley Nurses

Upon her retirement of 31 years of service to IU School of Nursing, Beverly Ross established the Beverly Ross Scholarship for Riley nurses. Beverly wishes to honor and thank the many nurses at James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children who through the years have unselfishly shared their time and expertise with School of Nursing students. This scholarship is for Riley nurses enrolled in the RN to BSN or the MSN programs.

  • Graduate nursing student in MSN program or undergraduate student enrolled in RN to BSN program
  • Currently employed at James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children
  • Applicant must upload employment verification from Riley Hospital. This can be in the form of a memo on Riley or IU Health letterhead with supervisor's signature & phone number
  • Essay should indicate how you have contributed significantly to the education of undergraduate nursing students
  • Is recognized by colleagues as an excellent nurse
