Find scholarships and fellowships to fund your education

If you are an incoming or current, undergraduate or graduate IU School of Nursing student, you may apply for one of our scholarships by submitting an application and required essay.

For financial need scholarships we request a completed FAFSA. Award amounts range from $500 to $10,000 per year, per scholarship. Applications for nursing specific scholarships are open from December 1 to March 31, unless otherwise noted in the scholarship portal.

How to apply for scholarships

  1. Sign in to the scholarship portal using your IU username and passphrase.
  2. Complete the general scholarship application to be automatically considered for all the scholarship opportunities you’re eligible for.
  3. Find the opportunities you’re looking for by performing a search with keyword nursing or the specific name of the scholarship.
  4. Complete any additional application materials that may be necessary.

Leona Meyer Shedd Scholarship

The Leona Meyer Shedd Scholarship was established in 1970 by Gilbert A. Shedd in honor of Leona Meyer Shedd.

  • Enrolled full-time (minimum 12 credit hours per semester)

  • Demonstrate financial need as defined by the U.S. Department of Education's criteria for need-based federal financial aid

Lillian Gatlin Stokes Nursing Scholarship

The Lillian Gatlin Stokes Nursing Scholarship was established by Lilian Gatlin Stokes, a proud alumna of IU School of Nursing. Lillian obtained her MSN in 1969 and PhD in 1998. She was an esteemed Emerita Faculty member and recognized as one of the Top 100 Alumni Legacy Leaders in 2014 during IU School of Nursing's 100th anniversary celebration. Her 40-year history at IU School of Nursing involved serving as a teacher, administrator, and advocate for her students.

 

Lois Latshaw Nursing Scholarship

The Lois Latshaw Nursing Scholarship was established in 1999 by Lois Latshaw, Master's of Nursing Education 1962, to acknowledge the excellent nursing education she received at the School of Nursing and to enable others to obtain an excellent nursing education.

Lura Moss Dolan, BSN RN Nursing Scholarship

The Lura Moss Dolan, BSN RN Nursing Scholarship was established in honor of Lura Moss Dolan by her husband, Dennis, and son, D. Matthew, Dolan, MSN, CRNA, APRN. Lura was a proud alumna from the BSN Class of 1967 and was a deeply compassionate and dedicated nurse. This scholarship honors Lura and the nursing profession.

 

Marcy Smith Critical Care Nursing Scholarship

The Marcy Smith Critical Care Nursing Scholarship was established by David M. Smith and Mary Ann Smith in memory of their daughter, Marcy Smith, who died at age 37, and to honor the critical care nurses who served Marcy. Many of Marcy's classmates from Kokomo High School Class of 1979 have also contributed to the fund.

  • 1st preference to graduate of Kokomo High School
  • 2nd preference to any Howard County high school
  • 3rd preference to Miami or Tipton counties high school
  • 4th preference to any Indiana high school
  • Undergraduate students taking critical care course (Applicants enrolled at IUSON-IUPUI must enroll in H476 for fall semester)

Margaret C. & Anne Marie Kuzmitz Scholarship in Nursing

The Margaret C. & Anne Marie Kuzmitz Scholarship in Nursing was established through an estate gift by Anne Marie, to honor her sister, Margaret, who was a nurse. Anne Marie wanted to assist students in need of financial assistance who are pursuing a degree in nursing on any IU campus.

Marion E. Broome RISE Scholarship

The Marion E. Broome RISE Scholarship was created in 2011 by IU School of Nursing Dean Marion E. Broome (2004-2014) and her husband, Carroll, who has had a long career in teaching, including as a faculty member at IU Kelley School of Business. This scholarship honors Dean Broome's illustrious career as a renowned researcher, distinguished professor, and dean. RISE - Research, International, Service Learning, and Experiential Learning

Martha Akers Scholarship

The Martha Akers Scholarship Endowment was established by Martha L. Akers in 1993. Martha received her bachelor's degree from Indiana University School of Nursing in 1993.

Mary E. & Patrick Soja Scholarship

The Mary E. and Patrick Soja Scholarship was established in 2001 by Mary E. and Patrick Soja to honor Mary's many years of dedicated service to IU School of Nursing. Mary (MSN '80) and Patrick (BA '84) are both graduates from Indiana University. Mary taught and supervised students at IU School of Nursing for 45 years.
