Biography
Dr. Phillips joined the faculty at Indiana University School of Nursing in 2014. Her research focuses on improving psychosocial outcomes of adolescents and young adults with cancer (AYA) by fostering their connectedness with healthcare providers. Her groundbreaking research on AYACS’ connectedness with healthcare providers demonstrates its significant association with enhancing AYA communication with providers, well-being, and engagement in long-term follow-up care. Her instrumentation work has forged new paths for assessment by being the first to create measures of AYA-provider connectedness and disconnectedness. Her research has been funded by the National Institute of Nursing Research, American Cancer Society, Mary Margaret Walther Program for Cancer Care and Research, Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation, and St. Baldrick's Foundation.
Dr. Phillips brings her 20+ years of research experience into the classroom. She is extremely passionate about igniting excitement for research among her undergraduate and graduate nursing students! She teaches evidence-based practice, research methods, and undergraduate honors research. Over the past nine years, she has mentored over 70 BSN Honors students in their journey to a professional nursing career. Her BSN Honor students have presented at both local and regional research conferences, won second place in an undergraduate research poster competition at a regional conference, and submitted manuscripts for publication.
