Provide comprehensive health care to well, at-risk, and chronically ill adult clients

A Nurse Practitioner is an advanced practice nurse who uses theory, research, and clinical expertise to improve the health of adults. As an Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP), you can provide comprehensive healthcare to clients age 13 and up in ambulatory or extended-care settings.

You can find employment opportunities in:

  • Collaborative clinical practice

  • Federally qualified health centers in both urban and rural settings
  • Specialty practice
  • Community clinic
  • Group clinical practice/HMOs
  • Occupational health
  • Urgent care/Emergency rooms
  • Prisons

This track can be completed in a three-year, part-time plan of study, or—if space in the program allows—a two-year, full-time plan of study.

Certification

When you graduate, you will be eligible for certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) as an Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner. As an advanced practice nurse, you will also qualify to apply for prescriptive authority from the Indiana Licensure Board.
