Advance your career as nursing faculty or a clinical nurse educator
Our 17 credit-hour Teaching in Nursing graduate certificate is designed for nurses seeking or currently working in academic teaching or clinical education positions who are looking to strengthen their knowledge of educational theory, curriculum and assessment development, teaching strategies, and educational technologies. The certificate includes two practicum experiences: a 75-hour clinical experience to develop deeper expertise in area of teaching interest and a 150-hour teaching practicum to apply what you've learned in a real-world setting.

Certification
If you already hold an MSN degree in another specialty area, completion of the Teaching in Nursing graduate certificate program fulfills your educational eligibility requirements for the NLN Certification for Nurse Educators program. After successfully completing the certificate, you will be eligible to sit for the CNE exam.
Admission
Admission to the Teaching in Nursing certificate requires:
- A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (or higher nursing degree) from a program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), or foreign equivalent as evaluated by the IU Indianapolis Office of International Affairs.
- A cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in your highest earned nursing degree, or equivalent. (Conditional admittance may be available under 3.0 GPA with holistic review.)
- An active, unencumbered Indiana or Compact RN license.
Admission is offered year-round. Deadlines to apply are as follows:
- Fall start: July 1
- Spring start: November 1
- Summer start: March 1
